Join us for a special photo charter with Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad’s Santa Fe 3415, featuring unique photo opportunities including a night photo session – hosted by Dak Dillon Photography.
Proceeds from this event will go to Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad to help with the FRA-mandated 15-year rebuild of Santa Fe 3415, scheduled to begin at the conclusion of the 2023 operating season.
This is the first time ASVR has held a full photo charter, and we look forward to a day of opportunities with Santa Fe 3415 and the organization’s volunteers.
- Santa Fe 3415 will be pulling its standard passenger consist which has been recently repainted ahead of the 2023 season. The consist includes passenger cars, a boxcar and a caboose in new maroon and gold paint. Preview the new paint here.
- We’ll have staged photo runbys in addition to static shots with reenactors and classic props.
- The night session will include professional LED lighting.
- We’ll ensure 3415 puts on a good show, even as an oil burner!
Due to the duration of this event and the lack of frequent restroom availability, we do not recommend this experience for young children.

Where do you recommend staying?
The charter will take place in Abilene, Kansas, which includes a few lodging options including a Holiday Inn Express and Super 8. Salina is approximately 30 mins away and has a wider selection of hotels and dining options, along with a downtown with unique activities.
Refund Policy
This charter has a go/no go date of August 15, 2023.
In the event the charter is canceled, a full refund (minus any credit card processing fees) will be refunded within 30 days of cancelation.
All reservations are non-refundable after the go/no go date for the charter.
If Santa Fe 3415 is not operational for the event date, the event will be canceled or rescheduled at the discretion of ASVR.
Terms and Conditions
We reserve the right to modify the event schedule, event dates or event offering at any time.
Riders may be required by the host railroad and/or Dakota Group LLC to sign a liability waiver to participate in the event.
We are not responsible for bad weather, delays or cancelations. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items, injuries, sickness or damages to personal equipment and loss of personal travel expenses.
Due to the duration of this event and lack of frequent restroom availability, we do not recommend this experience for young children.
Participants must be prepared to disembark and reboard train multiple times throughout the day. Participants should be prepared for rough terrain or uneven footing. Please wear sturdy shoes; hiking boots are recommended.
